HIKES NEAR CLE ELUM

Cheese Rock Trail (3.1 mi, 410’ elevation gain; Easy)
Enjoy the stunning scenery on your way to the Cheese Rock in this out-and-back hike about 25 minutes from Cle Elum. Discover Pass Required.

Peoh Point (3.5 mi, 50’ elevation gain; Easy)
Enjoy this trail for 180 degree views of the Cle Elum valley and the Stuart range from atop a 2000’ cliff with steep drop offs. There is an option to park closer and make this a 1 mile, flat hike. This trail is about 35 minutes from Cle Elum.


Coal Mines Trail (6.3 mi, 321’ elevation gain; Easy)
This mellow hike or bike leaves from Cle Elum, traveling through Roslyn and on to Ronald with views of many coal mining remains.


Iron Horse State Park Trails (Varying mileage, Easy)
From this state park, you can go east or west on the Palouse to Cascades Trail. We recommend you don’t miss a visit to the historic South Cle Elum Train Depot along this section.


French Cabin Creek (3 mi, 1000’ elevation gain; Moderate)
Enjoy this short trail through open forest to the headwaters of French Cabin Creek and the junction with the Kachess Ridge Trail. Note, you cannot park all the way at the trailhead, and have to walk in from further down the road.


Carlson Creek Loop (4 mi, 488’ elevation gain; Moderate)
Enjoy the big boulder formations and views of the Teanaway River and the Enchantment Mountains from this pretty trail about 25 minutes from Cle Elum. Discover Pass Required.

Baldy Mountain Trail/T.P. Jim Trail (5 mi, 1972’ elevation gain; Strenuous)
Towards Yakima (~ 45 minuts from Cle Elum), you can enjoy the wildflowers and panorama of the Cascade Mountains crest with this more challenging trail. Bring a lot of water, as the trail is exposed.


Hex Mountain Trail (7.5 mi, 2900’ elevation gain; Strenuous)
Although it is rated as a somewhat difficult trek, the beautiful wildflowers that can be observed along the way make the climb worth it. There are a few false summits so don't be fooled, the view at the top is panoramic. Try your best to stick it out for these gorgeous views featuring Mount Rainier and Mount Stuart only about 20 minutes from Cle Elum.

Looking for a hike on your way out to the wedding? The beautiful I-90 corridor is chock full of them! Below are just a few suggestions for spots to try!

Franklin Falls Trail (2 mi, 344’ elevation gain; Easy)
Hiking with kids, new to hiking, or just looking for an easy day hike with a spectacular endpoint? Look no further than Franklin Falls! At just 2 miles roundtrip with 400 feet in elevation gain it is the perfect destination for any hiker looking for something easy and beautiful. NW Forest Pass or Interagency Pass Required.

Twin Falls Trail (2.4 mi, 940’ elevation gain; Moderate)
Visit a trio (yes, trio) of waterfalls just off I-90 on this sure-to-please short trail. Discover Pass Required.

Rattlesnake Ledge Trail (5.3 mi, 1459’ elevation gain; Moderate)
This is a fine hike on a well maintained, popular trail through a cool forest with views of the Cedar River watershed, Mount Si, Mount Washington, Rattlesnake Lake and Chester Morse Lake.


Annette Lake Trail (7.5 mi, 1800’ elevation gain; Moderate)
Waterfalls, wildflowers, sheltering forests, mountain views and an alpine lake are offered on this well-maintained trail. At the lake, enjoy the sights and relax for a while. NW Forest Pass or Interagency Pass Required.

Mailbox Peak (9.4 mi, 4000’ elevation gain; Strenuous)
For those who want a real challenge, take the steep trail up mailbox peak to visit the famous mailbox at its top. Make sure to look for information on the new trail, which is a much safer way to attain the summit of this formidable peak. Discover Pass Required.
